Renovation of the Archducal Park in Arco

The Arco municipal government plans to renovate the Arciducale Park, which, with its beautiful arboretum, is one of the most beloved and popular spots among residents and tourists alike.
The park’s botanical garden and its collection of monumental trees—which is constantly maintained and updated—are in good condition, while the services, facilities, and educational support structures are outdated, inconsistent, and do not blend in with the park’s “green architecture.”
We also aim to improve communication about the park’s unique features by updating the signage and adapting its content to meet the expectations of today’s discerning and active visitors.
A park renovated in this way can become an excellent resource for educational, cultural, and recreational activities that bring people into contact with nature while respecting it.

The redevelopment project aims to renovate the park’s facilities and enhance its accessibility, while adhering to the principles established by Prof. Larcher in his 1960s design for the Arboretum.
The park does not need to be redesigned; it just needs to be cleaned up and made more harmonious.
The actual design phase was preceded by an intensive period of discussion among the stakeholders (the City, Muse, and the Superintendency) in order to propose mutually agreed-upon solutions to the critical issues that emerged during the analysis phase.

The area along the retaining wall to the east, near the entrance, and the boundary wall to the north was identified as the ideal location for the new structures, as it is already built up and occupies a central yet secluded position, out of sight.
Once the existing structures and canopies have been removed, the space—covering a gross area of approximately 170 m²—will be divided into classrooms, storage areas, restrooms, and a custodian’s office.
